One might think that this was a wonderful turn of events in the city, for absolutely everyone was rich! Unfortunately, this was not true. Everyone was not rich.

Consider, for example, the man who wanted to buy fresh chicken for his dinner, If he would offer his money to the butcher, she would have to say no, and refuse his offer. Why would the butcher want his money? She, already, had all the money she wanted courtesy of the money tree.

In turn, the butcher may want to buy whole chicken from the chicken factory. If she would offer her money to the factory owner, to pay for the chicken, he would say, “no thank you.” Why would the factory owner want the butcher’s money? After all, he, like the butcher, had all the money he wanted from the money tree.

Again, the factory owner will want to pay his employees for their hard work. He will offer them money, but they will refuse to take it. Why? Because Bobby’s father had already given these workers all the money they had asked for. Why, on earth, would they want more? So , you see, there was so much money in the city that a person couldn’t even give it away; let alone buy anything with it. About the only use for money was in the fireplace: money to burn.
